Learning to say NO

Just finished reading the book "Learning to say NO". The book was quite well and very remarkable and everyone who has a habit of saying 'Yes' to everything should read it once. Important points of the book are written below:-
  1. You find yourself constantly saying yes because of that deep-rooted sense of having to be polite, to reciprocate favors and to get along with others.
  2. You say yes because you want to be liked by all.
  3. You are worrying about what others will think of you.
  4. Flattery doesn't always come from the heart.
  5. You say yes because you do not want to challenge authority.
  6. You say yes because you feel you have to say yes.
  7. Sometimes in an effort to always do what is right, people can get caught up in the loop of always saying 'Yes'.
  8. You are not assertive enough to muster up the courage to say No.
  9. Learning how to say No will make you feel more confident and in control of your life.
  10. Sometimes, the accumulation of small issues creates a big one.

Review of Raazi

Yesterday I saw the movie Raazi. Despite being a patriotic movie, it was different in many senses. It didn't have any chest thumping or any anti-Pakistani, neither it has any larger than life character. It didn't even have the "Compulsory Jan Gan Man". Still, it was a beautifully written and powerfully acted patriotic movie. More then a movie it was a journey of different characters. The plot is good, acting is superb. The casting was spot on and all characters just fit into their roles seamlessly. This is Alia is 3rd classic performance after Highway and Udta Punjab and with every such role, she is getting better. Vicky Kaushal, Jaideep Ahlawat, Rajat Kapoor nailed it in their performance. Meghna Gulzar is actually making an image of serious and sensitive film-maker and her films "Filhal","Talwar" and "Raazi" justifies it. One of the advantages of watching a Meghna Gulzar movie is the lyrics by Gulzar. Musci is the high point of the film and never leave the main plot. This movie is more a journey of different characters. You can call it a poetic tribute to the country."Raazi" is a must watch for Alia's acting, for Meghna's direction, for a fresh patriotism.

The Sialkot Saga

  1. Marry your daughter into a family that’s richer and take a daughter-in-law from a family that’s poorer, had been the old maxim.
  2. All these days I was ready to try love without marriage. Why shouldn’t I try marriage without love?
  3. ‘Politics is like theatre,’. ‘Each politician plays his part according to the lines that are given to him. But backstage, the hero and the villain enjoy their drink together.
  4. When it’s a question of money, everybody is of the same religion.

Palace of illusions

Just finished reading "Palace of Illusions by Chitra B Devkuni". This is a version of Mahabharat from Draupadi's point of view. It is very well written and every caste and character has been given decent weight-age. The book balances between miracle part and fact part without comprises the plot. I will recommend this book to get a different view. Some good lines are written below:

  1. A well-meaning man is more dangerous because he believes in the rightness of what he does.
  2. Your childhood hunger is the one that never leaves you.
  3. Is the desire for vengeance stronger than the longing to be loved? What evil magic does it possess to draw the human heart so powerfully to it?

Best Books on Mahabharat

From my childhood days, we have grown fond of epic Ramayana and Mahabharata. I always have this question in my mind whether they actually occurred or just myths of our religion. As I grow up, I read more about both of them and realize that I am quite getting fascinated towards Mahabharata and its different characters. Mahabharata has so many characters that you just can't decide which one is your favorite. Every character has a certain story and certain motive to join Mahabharata. Today I am going to share my list of books written on Mahabharata and its characters:
  1. Mahasamar- Narendra Kohli (07 book series based on Mahabharata and its contemporary views)
  2. Rashmirathi-Ramdhari S.Dinker (Based on Karna)
  3. Andha Yug-Dharmveer Bharti (Based on aftermath of Mahabharat)
  4. Karna's wife-Kavita Kane (On Karna's second wife)
  5. The secret of Mahabharat-Robert C.Doyle(Mythological fiction on Viman Parv)
  6. The palace of illusions-Chitra Devkuni (Mahabharat from Draupadi's point of view)
